Tell us about the beginning of your interest in darts. My interest in darts started as a time killer on the nights when it was my turn to be the designated driver. One night we were out and there was league going on so I had to wait to play until league was over and a board opened up. I played a few league players and beat them all (beginner’s luck possibly).
In which league(s) do you play? I was asked to play in a league and wound up playing in 3 leagues, North Jersey Dart Federation (Bucky’s league), Association of Bergen County Dartist’s, and the Bronx Irish Tavern Owners League.
I am not currently playing in a league, I have taken off a year for the birth of my daughter.
Which other family members play? My wife played for a little while, other than that, just some good friends.
How far from home do you play? I have played up to 30 miles.
How many days per week do you engage in darts? Out in bars, 1 a week, at home about 3 times a week
What kind of darts do you use: 22g weight! Eric Bristow PowerPoint brand?
What is the most annoying antic you see from other dart players? Poor sportsmanship, Disrespect for novice players and forgetting that it is just a game.
Tell us about conflicts darts created in home or work life? Since having children it is tough to leave them for a weekend to play in tournaments. Other than that, my wife and work have been very supportive of any “time away” to play.
What goals in darts do you have? To get on the East All Star team again, Win the US 501 championship, win the World Series of Darts.
What has been your best moment in darts? I have two, winning the 2003 Rae Chesney 501 Open Doubles with Buddy Lessig beating Johnny K and Tom Curtin and Making the 2003 East All Star Team.
What’s your advice to a newbie dart player? Play often against better players, different people in different places. Work on consistency and grouping.
What would make your league better and more fun? A change of league format might be needed to make the waiting time less. (smaller teams? different organization of game play?)
What does the sport need to help it grow and improve its image? A good advertising campaign. The World Series of Darts was huge but I saw not one ad for it on TV, no print advertising nothing.
How far would you travel to see national championship playoffs? 30 miles
Which game would interest you most in a national championship: ( )301, (X)501, ()Cricket
